Dr Who - The Face of Evil - DVD review

Released by BBC and Roadshow
Rating: PG

Another outing for Tom Baker's multicoloured scarf Doctor - and one which introduces a new iconic companion.

When the Doctor touches down on a mysterious jungle planet, he encounters the savage races which live there and finds himself hunted as The Evil One.

Fortunately in his quest to find out exactly what's going on, he's aided by the savage Leela (Louise Jameson in her debut) and he'll need all the help he can get.

The Face of Evil is a typical slice of 70s Dr Who in terms of FX but in terms of story telling it's one of the more superior tales - thanks in part to Jameson's strong assured debut as Leela and the ever watchable Tom Baker. It's an overlooked story from a golden era of Who but with measured performances and a pacy story, it's somewhat of a classic outing for the range.

Extras: A solid bunch - but nothing outstanding; a making of, commentaries, interview with Louise Jameson from 2003 (!) and production notes et al
