Ubisoft announces Watch Dogs: Legion

Ubisoft announces Watch Dogs: Legion

UBISOFT ANNOUNCES WATCH DOGS®: LEGION WILL BE AVAILABLE OCTOBER 29, 2020

Today at Ubisoft’s first digital press conference, Ubisoft Forward, the company announced that Watch Dogs®: Legion will launch on October 29, 2020, on,  Xbox One, PlayStation®4, Stadia and for Windows PC on Epic Games and Uplay. The game will also be available on UPLAY+*, Ubisoft’s subscription service. Watch Dogs: Legion will also release on Xbox Series X and PlayStation®5 upon the launch of the consoles.

In Watch Dogs: Legion, London is facing its downfall. Amidst the growing unrest of a restless London, a mysterious entity known as Zero-Day has framed secret underground resistance DedSec for coordinated bombings across London. In the aftermath, criminal opportunists from every dark corner of London took hold and filled the void left by a defeated government. As a member of DedSec, players will be going up against criminal opportunists in Watch Dogs: Legion; sadists, mercenaries, cybercriminals, and more; they’ll have to be prepared for a variety of situations. Players must recruit members into their DedSec Resistance to take on these criminal opportunists, liberate London and uncover the mystery behind Zero-Day.

Watch Dogs: Legion lets players recruit anyone they can see in the open world to be part of their DedSec Resistance up to 40 characters at a time. The London setting gives players the perfect backdrop to recruit all kinds of characters – who each have unique skills and weapons – to their Resistance: from an MI6 agent to a bareknuckle fighter, from a brilliant hacker to a getaway driver, from a football hooligan to an inconspicuous old lady. Players can play as any character from their roster of recruits and approach a situation based on their preference; whether the approach is from the sky while riding high on a cargo drone as a construction worker, or on the ground as a spy using high-tech gadgets like a gun-jamming watch and a prototype of a rocket-firing car, the choice is for the player to make.

In addition, Ubisoft announced the Gold, Ultimate and Collector’s Editions**** for Watch Dogs: Legion:

The Umbrella Academy Series 2 trailer

The Umbrella Academy Series 2 trailer

The Umbrella Academy Series 2 trailer

Season 2 Premieres July 31, 2020

On October 1, 1989 seven extraordinary humans were born. On July 31, 2020, they return.

Featured in the trailer is an original song from Gerard Way, entitled "Here Comes The End".

On writing the song: “I was originally inspired to write this track when series one of The Umbrella Academy was being shot; by the time I finished it 2020 was in full swing, the world had taken a profound turn and the song was finished in a surreal new reality.”

Season 2 Synopsis:
Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right - the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they’re the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which - spoiler alert! - turns out is a result of the group’s disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything.

Series Synopsis:
On the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by a billionaire who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his "children" to save the world. Now, the six surviving members reunite upon the news of their father's passing and must work together to solve a mystery surrounding his death. But the estranged family begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse. The Umbrella Academy is based on the comic book series created and written by Gerard Way, illustrated by Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics. The show is produced by Universal Content Productions for Netflix, with Steve Blackman serving as executive producer and showrunner, and additional EPs Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, Gerard Way, and Gabriel Bá.

Scoob!: Film Review

Scoob!: Film Review

Vocal cast: Will Forte, Zac Efron, Jason Isaacs, Gina Rodriguez, Amanda Seyfried
Director: Tony Cervone

The Hanna Barbera cinematic universe fires its opening salvo with the reimagining of Scooby Doo for a 2020 audience - mixing in some Avengers' style elements with some old school nostalgia sure to delight fans.
Scoob!: Film Review

In this latest, Norville "Shaggy" Rogers befriends lonely mutt, Scooby, founding a friendship on food and hijinks. After a casual Halloween meeting with Fred, Velma and Daphne and an unmasking of a ghost, the gang forms Mystery Inc, deadset on solving mysteries.

However, when Scooby and Shaggy are ostracised after a business deal from Simon Cowell excludes them, they find themselves caught up in Dick Dastardly's quest to open the Underworld...

While Scoob has some great nostalgia for those brought up on the show, it does move massively away from its mystery roots in favour of an Avengers-style adventure.

At times, that's no bad thing, but given that Cervone's peppered the film with hints of the past - from a pitch perfect recreation of the original titles to cameos from other Hanna Barbera characters - there's an occasionally disjointed feel to the proceedings.
Scoob!: Film Review

Younger fans may be more amused by the animated antics than older ones, given the film's propensity for silliness and catchphrase moments. Some of the clearly winking jokes about Avengers fall a little flat, if truth be told.

Odd pop culture references feel a little out of place, and will age quickly, but there's no denying Scoob! wants to be a good shaggy dog film - whether that's enough for this origin tale to guarantee its future is questionable at best.

However, for a blast of fun during the school holidays and indoors thanks to Covid-19, Scoob! proves diverting enough for the younger end of the audience.
Scoob!: Film Review

SCOOB! is available to rent or buy in New Zealand on the following platforms:
  • Apple TV, iTunes, Google Play, YouTube, Playstation, Xbox, Sky, Neon

UBISOFT BRINGS BATTLE ROYALE TO NEW HEIGHTS WITH HYPER SCAPE

Discover a New Fast-Paced Urban Battle Royale During the Limited-Time PC Technical Test

Today, Ubisoft® announced Hyper Scape™, a free-to-play fast-paced urban battle royale first-person shooter. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Hyper Scape takes place in the distant future of 2054, where up to 100 Contenders descend upon the virtual city of Neo-Arcadia to engage in action-packed and fast-paced matches to be crowned champion. Starting today, Hyper Scape is available in a limited-time PC technical test in many territories across North America and Europe[1]. Interested players can try out the game during the technical test by tuning into one of the content creators currently broadcasting Hyper Scape on Twitch with Twitch Drops enabled. Full list available here.

Hyper Scape was designed from the ground up as an intense, vertical and fast-paced battle royale experience. Three-player squads and solo players can dive into the futuristic virtual city of Neo-Arcadia to engage in dynamic firefights, quickly transitioning from narrow streets to open rooftops and deadly interiors.

Hyper Scape introduces Hacks, abilities that players can loot in the world the same way they do weapons. Hacks grant offensive and defensive capabilities to suit all playstyles. Laying down a mine that seeks enemies, protecting the squad with a big wall or turning invisible to sneak up on opponents are just a few examples of the Hacks players can combine and swap effortlessly. All Hacks and weapons can be upgraded through the Fusion mechanic to produce more powerful iterations of the pre-existing item.

Hyper Scape innovates and twists the battle royale formula in many ways, such as the unpredictable Decay which dissolves the map of Neo-Arcadia into different patterns, or the unique Echo mechanic that keeps players active in the battle even when they’re down. At the end of a Hyper Scape match, the climatic showdown phase starts when the Hyper Scape crown spawns on the map. Players have two different ways to claim victory, either by picking up and carrying the crown for 45 seconds or by being the last player or squad standing.

Hyper Scape is fun to play and rewarding to watch. Developed in partnership with Twitch, the Hyper Scape Crowncast Twitch extension will entertain viewers by letting them impact the game in real time, creating unprecedented interaction between streamers and their fans. Viewers will also have a real-time impact on the battle by voting on events that affect all contenders within a match, such as low gravity or infinite ammo.

"We’ve built something really unique and fresh by streamlining the experience to focus on fun and intensity. We’re really excited to let players have a try at it right away and we can’t wait to hear what they think of it" said Graeme Jennings, Senior Producer on Hyper Scape at Ubisoft Montreal. "But this is just the start. Hyper Scape is a universe that is built to grow, and our players will see the beginnings of that even during our technical test.”

"What makes Twitch so unique is the real-time engagement between our streamers and their fans. While traditionally this kind of interaction has been about commenting on gameplay, Hyper Scape transports viewers into the game themselves, to serve as active participants,” said Sharmeen Browarek Chapp, VP of community product at Twitch. “The fact that fans can now directly impact what’s happening in the game to either help or challenge streamers is an entirely new experience. We’re thrilled to partner with Ubisoft on this and cannot wait to show our communities what else we have in store for them!”

Minecraft Dungeons: XBox One Review

Minecraft Dungeons: XBox One Review

Developed by Mojang Studios and Double Eleven
Published by XBox Studios
Platform: XBox One

There's no denying that Minecraft Dungeons is a light shallow game.

Mojang's take on the classic Gauntlet-style dungeons crawler may be derivative, but it isn't half fun. Fusing together the blocky imagery of Minecraft with the unending hordes of Gauntlet makes for an entirely pleasant way to spend some gaming downtime.
Minecraft Dungeons: XBox One Review

The game centres on you, as you take on the hordes of the Zombies, Illagers and Endermen as they impede you from trying to reach the castle owned by Archie, the rejected Illager who got possessed by an orb of evil.

There's a level of cutesy to Minecraft Dungeons which engages all ages and proves to be a tonic for some bitesize fun.

Weapons and skills can be augmented by crafting and using enchantments to power up your inventory. Plus collecting gems throughout gives you the chance to randomly collect other materials to use to your advantage.

While it may lack some of the patented Minecraft crafting requirements, Minecraft Dungeons transfers the blocky aesthetics to the game, and ensures fans of the Mojang experience aren't left out.
Minecraft Dungeons: XBox One Review

But crucially, it doesn't become so entrenched to the original game that it is not approachable for non-fans. You don't need to know your Illagers from your Zombies to be part of it. And along with an online team up and the chance to expand the leads out, the game really does owe a massive debt to Gauntlet.

More Minecraft Fun-geons than a Dungeon dwelling experience, this easy and breezy game is perfect all ages family fare, that's as addictive as it is playable.
