Project Cars 2: PS4 Review

There is something about the racing car simulator that doesn't seem to let up.

With a plethora of them hitting during the AAA Storm, Project Cars 2 is one of the first cabs out of the rank and it's exceptional - if you're willing to invest time into it.

Practice is needed to make sure that you actually get the hang of this simulator.

First time round it was tough to handle the cars, and to be honest, it's not much different this time - but eventually, the handling does get better and the game really kicks in.

Like any solid simulator, it takes a bit of time to get your head around how it works, and while the handling's a little more responsive this time, it does still mean you can go off the rails quickly if you're not careful.

There's depth to the game too, as there are over 180 cars to get the hang of and a career game to get into - but again, it's about long-term reward rather than short term payoff. Which is no mean thing.
Online racing is tough - there's no point going into this without a track record in more ways than one. Racers there know their craft and will easily take you down if you're not willing to show what you've got.

Graphically, the effort's been concentrated on the cars and while they look great, the surrounding climates aren't as strong; still, as you're speeding around the track, it's less important than what you manage to do on the track.

Much like DriveClub was, cars have specific performance characteristics and represent their real-life counterpart accurately. The tire physics have also been built from the ground up, with more advanced tire movements and actions.

It's clear love's been poured into Project Cars 2 - and while time pays off, you will need patience to get the best out of this simulator.

But with depth and a palpable sense of reward on offer, it's worth it.
