Scott Pilgrim vs The World: Complete Edition: PS4 Review
Released by Ubisoft
Released over a 4 year period in 2010 before being deleted back in 2014, Scott Pilgrim vs The World is one of those games that has grown in infamy.
A side-scroller arcade game, this beat-em-up follows the MO of Edgar Wright's much under-appreciated movie and the graphic novels as you beat your way through seven levels as Scott Pilgrim to take on Ramona Flowers' evil exes.
Smashing and vanquishing each goon on the way to the final level big bad delivers you coins to use in various shops, all of which help you to level up in some way or other. Whether it's fight moves or health power ups, the game's also giving you new moves and abilities as it progresses - which is just as well, as you'd need those to get through trickier fights.
Scott Pilgrim vs The World: Complete Edition is a nicely disposable beat-em-up that serves a lot of nostalgia in among its pixelated goodness. It works well as a multiplayer, and the game benefits greatly from some extra input, given the fact you may have to repeat levels to earn extra money to access upgrades.
Occasionally, the fight controls seem a little counter-intuitive. From struggling to pick up items on the ground to brawl with to not registering new moves, the game sometimes doesn't quite make it easy to play.
All in all, as a bite-size brawler with some strong gameplay, Scott Pilgrim vs The World: Complete Edition is a nicely packaged and affordable title to own forever.
