Nobody Wants to Die: PS5 Review

Mixing cyberpunk with a detective story in a futuristic New York City yields enjoyable results for Nobody Wants to Die, providing a narrative that challenges players.
Set in 2039, you play James Karra, a former baseball player whose consciousness has been transferred and uploaded to a new body but who has chosen the path of a detective rather than a sportsman to get by. When a seemingly innocent suicide proves to be more than it appears, Karra begins to unearth conspiracies and horrific truths.
With a story that moves at a brisk pace and feels like it's all killer, no filler, Nobody Wants to Die uses techniques such as rewinding time to piece together crime scenes and put together more of the story. The solving of these isn't exactly difficult and shows that while some elements of the gameplay lack sophistication, it's all in service of a narrative that's worth playing.
But it's the world-building and the graphics that help sell the game.
From its Blade Runner-esque looks to its worn-down city and locales, Nobody Wants to Die just looks the part of a hard-bitten detective film. From standing atop buildings and watching vehicles fly by to examining crime scenes, this is a game that gets the graphic basics right and proves immersive in doing so.
An enjoyable exploration of a sci-fi concept and a real-life concern, Nobody Wants to Die is well worth investing time in.
