DJ Ahmet: Movie Review

DJ Ahmet: Movie Review

Cast: Arif Jakup, Agush Agushev, Dora Akan Zlatanova, Aksel Mehmet, Selpin Kerim
Director: Georgi Unkovski

A simple coming-of-age story writ into a larger narrative of unrequited love, DJ Ahmet follows teen Ahmet, whose family is broken following the death of his mother.

DJ Ahmet: Movie Review

Unable to connect with his father and a protector of his now mute young brother, Ahmet is wrenched from school to care for the family flock - both the sheep and the youngster. Escaping through his music (when very limited wi-fi permits it), Ahmet is the region's technical expert.

But when he meets Aya, who's been brought back from Germany to marry an older man, he finds his world is opened up to the possibilities he may never be able to get again.

Definitively sweet and peppered with some moments of unexpected humour - a pink sheep and an inept owner of the broadcaster of the local prayers chief among them - DJ Ahmet weaves a very familiar tale in a very unfamiliar environment.

The push and pull of the dynamic between both Ahmet, his father, and also Aya,who also yearns to break away from her life and destiny, works exceptionally well in the gentle story as it unfolds. With a sensitively helmed camera from Unkovski, DJ Ahmet unfurls at a pace that's enjoyable but also frustratingly forgettable in parts.

There are moments which capture the hedonism and the frustration of youth and the connection that music brings - and while Jakup's restrained performance delivers what's necessary for the teen, the film's familiarity soon becomes both its strength and weakness.

But in transposing a story to a world never often glimpsed before, DJ Ahmet becomes a charmer of a film that proves not everything needs to be a large-scale piece of cinematic proportions.

The Wolves Always Come At Night: Movie Review

The Wolves Always Come At Night: Movie Review

Director: Gabrielle Brady

The Wolves Always Come At Night: Movie Review

An intriguing documentary about a Mongolian couple Daava and Zaya, a nomadic couple in the Gobi Desert, The Wolves Always Come At Night takes a look at the impact one single event can have on an entire community and family.

When a vicious sandstorm rips through their settlement and wipes out their flock, they have no choice but to relocate to the outskirts of a nearby village, far away from the world they've known through the years.

To say The Wolves Always Come At Night is a case of slow cinema in extremis is an understatement.

With gorgeously swooping and desolate visuals, the film's eye for both the nomad lifestyle and the bleakness of parts of the Gobi Desert is both compelling, alienating and also heartbreaking.

Early scenes find the pair counting their animals - an admittedly small flock - something which builds a level of connection that's not scored by any traditional narrative. Arid lands give way to a raging sandstorm, a visual that as destructive as any wrought by CGI on screen in a blockbuster.

But this intimate tale hints at the damage done by global warming, with the herders revealing in an emergency meeting of their ilk that if they can have at least one in three years that's decent to their crops and stock it's a bonus.

Yet what also emerges in this tale is a strong feeling of resilience, of families and livelihoods shattered by events outside of anyone's control. Not once does the camera allow any kind of manipulation here, with the film providing an honesty that's as compelling as it is raw.

Mistress Dispeller: Movie Review

Mistress Dispeller: Movie Review

Director: Elizabeth Lo

An intriguing documentary that sensitively handles the issue of infidelity in a surprisingly frank and different way, Elizabeth Lo's Mistress Dispeller begins and closes with a view of one woman getting her hair done.

With extreme close-ups, Lo follows Mistress Dispeller Wang Zhenxi, a person for hire who enters into relationships that are going wrong to help mend what's broken and break the cycle.

Mistress Dispeller: Movie Review

But what actually happens is that Wang joins a Mrs Li to hear of her suspicions and of her heartbreak when she received a random text on her husband's phone that shattered her world. Opining that his heart is elsewhere, she opens up to Wang who then ingratiates herself into both the life of the couple and the mistress Fei Fei who's travelling to see her man.

While Mistress Dispeller could have been a salacious look at the implosion of a marriage, Lo's careful and mindful grasp of the situation shows that everyone involved has emotions - and with a great deal of empathy, Lo's surprisingly subtle film uncovers the gravity of the situation and even the hardship of the mistress who Wang always believes are the ones who suffer the most.

There is a complexity knit through this film that keeps its subjects both close and the morals of the situation under control. Winsomely shot rather than excessively over-played, the honesty of the trio is what helps as well - especially given there's no feeling of an overarching control and narrative during this - it merely organically plays out.

Mistress Dispeller is a subtle explanation of the idea that there's always more than one side to every story - and while the tale of infidelity is universal, the intimacy of this documentary is more than engaging.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps: Movie Review

The Fantastic Four: First Steps: Movie Review

Cast: Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Julia Garner, Ralph Ineson, Ebon Moss-Bachrach
Director: Matt Shakman

And the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicks off.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps: Movie Review

Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ introduces Marvel’s First Family - Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic [Pascal], Sue Storm/Invisible Woman [Kirby], Johnny Storm/Human Torch [Quinn] and Ben Grimm/The Thing [Moss-Bachrach] as they face their most daunting challenge yet.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps: Movie Review

The latest iteration of the Fantastic Four is one that has a grounding more in  the earnest dynamic between the family rather than global concerns (initially).

Set in a retrofuturistic Manhattan, it posits Marvel's first family as heroes to those around them. Newsreels deal with the requisite back story of how they came to have their powers, rather than a hird or fourth origin attempt.

Four years after they became Earth's protectors, Sue and Reed are expecting their first ever child, something they'd given up on years ago. But while Reed, the self-appointed worrier and protector, fusses over what could go wrong, things take a turn for the worst when Galactus, the devourer of worlds, slates the planet for annihilation.

A solidly enjoyable Marvel outing, Fantastic Four: First Steps benefits from both casting and world-building skills.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps: Movie Review

With its retrofuturistic Jetsons-esque Futurama vibe, the world feels lived in and also perfects the day after tomorrow vibe that befits it. Scenes with Galactus impress on the scale, with Imax formatting filling the whole screen.

And while the film feels intimate thanks to a story that's about a tight-knit family being threatened and facing an unconscionable choice, it doesn't fall foul of grand world peril despite the implied threat.

It's in the characters beats that the story excels, with relationship dynamics feeling grounded and real.

From Pascal's troubled father-to-be finding his world view shattered because of the unknowns of impending fatherhood to Kirby's ferocious and relatable maternal strength as the family's rock and politician through to Ben Grimm's heart being more on show than previously, the movie has its view cast inward rather than out.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps: Movie Review

There's a gentle vein of humour running through (largely due to Paul Walter Hauser's Moleman, a character you want more screen time for) that serves the parental dread-laden script well.

And while the Silver Surfer's gender flip isn't an issue, the film's not quite sure what to do with her - the only misfire in a movie that feels rounded as it goes on. Plus,it has to be said it does feel like it struggles with what an ending could be for the story its laid out.

Yes, it is Fantastic in parts (Michael Giacchino's score is a high note), and a welcome relief from the dour colorless entries, but Fantastic Four: The First Steps is an enjoyable start to the MCU's sixth phase.

Together: Movie Review

Together: Movie Review

Cast: Dave Franco, Alison Brie, Damon Herriman
Director: Michael Shanks

Michael Shanks' body horror thriller Together may go for the shock factor, but there is more devastation to be found in the ripples between a long-term couple facing the consequences of relationship indifference.

Brie and Franco are Millie and Tim, a pair who've been together for a while, but whose lives as a couple have hit a rut. Millie's just got a new teaching job requiring her to move to the country, something which permanent manchild Tim isn't wild about.

Together: Movie Review

While he's continually chasing a musical career and traumatised by the death of his mentally ill parents, he's stuck in the not knowing what he wants, a trait that's less than endearing to his partner who, in the movie's first awkward scene, proposes to him in front of their friendship group at a farewell party.

Needless to say, it doesn't go well and Tim's distance from Millie merely makes things harder when they move. Setting off on a hike, the pair soon get lost and in a mysterious cave with a well, church pews and a bell - despite their resistance to the idea they end up drinking the water to get through the night.

But the day after, things get weird between the pair of them when they wake up stuck together...

Together is supposed to be about co-dependency, but thanks to Franco and Brie's lived-in relationship vibe, it ends up more of a film about a relationship teetering on the edge that throws in some supernatural elements and a garble of last act exposition.

From jump scares to barbs, throwaway comedy lines and disorienting the visuals, the movie makes great fist of its awkwardness - but never at the expense of the central two performances. Herriman works as an occasional interjecting side character, yet in truth, this belongs squarely to Brie and Franco.

With Shanks' slow-drawing out of events and atmospheric pacing, the film gradually heads for full-on body horror mode - some of which is more successful than other parts, yet it never betrays its central conceit.

Namely that being part of a couple can be all-enveloping whether you want it too or not. Together may not really offer new insight into this revelation, but it does prove to be a riotously uncomfortable time getting there.

CatVideoFest 2025: Movie Review

CatVideoFest 2025: Movie Review

Director: Will Braden

It's hard to be churlish about a 70 minute movie that pulls together a curation from the plenitude of cat videos that live upon the internet.

But while this one-off weekend event is for charity, it remains to be seen how charitable you'll feel about it towards the end - unless you're an extreme feline lover. Of which there are many.

CatVideoFest 2025: Movie Review

The once-underground event has gone wider, and this latest pulls together a solid collection of the internet's shortest and seemingly greatest feline videos in their short and long-form. It means that while you may feel less engaged with one video, another can be found coming your way shortly after you've disengaged from any other.

Divided up into sub-categories such as drama, action-adventure and music, the varying quality of videos settles squarely for leaving you feline fine as it plays out.

From animated hijinks from Simon's Cat to a cat in love with a bikini with a heartbreaking sequence about a neglected puss found riddled with mange and mites, there's more than enough here to keep fans engaged.

It's all sensibly curated as well with effortlessly flowing elements pouring into the next - and while some feel less creative than others, there are at least several moments guaranteed to leave the hardest of hearts either cooing with love or rolling with laughter.

It's difficult to be anti a movement like this, given cinema is all blockbusters and repeat formulas - and given a portion of the money's going to charities in parts, its heart is squarely in the right place. Best seen with an audience full of animal lovers, this is a communal experience that's unbridled in its sense of joy - even if there are moments when it feels like a bit of a pause would help.

CatVideoFest 25 plays around New Zealand for one weekend only - August 2 and August 3.

Logitech G and McLaren Racing Sign New, Expanded Multi Year Partnership

Logitech G and McLaren Racing Sign New, Expanded Multi Year Partnership

Logitech G, a Logitech brand and global leader in gaming technology, and motorsport icon McLaren  Racing, has announced a multi-year renewal and expansion of their long-standing partnership. This  renewed partnership with McLaren Racing builds on the success of Logitech McLaren G Challenge, the  world's premier racing tournaments, to now also include a portfolio of official gaming wheels, pedals,  racing seats, and headsets, all designed to deliver the most authentic and immersive sim racing  experience possible.

Logitech G and McLaren Racing Sign New, Expanded Multi Year Partnership

"When two pioneers from different worlds come together, they don’t just collaborate, they redefine what’s  possible. That’s exactly what happened when we partnered with McLaren Racing, one of the most iconic  names in motorsport,” said Robin Piispanen, GM of Logitech G’s SIM and PRO Categories. “What began as  a shared passion for performance and innovation quickly evolved into a powerful force shaping the future  of racing, both on the grid and in the world of esports."

One of the pillars of this collaboration is the Logitech McLaren G Challenge. Launched in 2018, the G  Challenge has grown into one of the world’s largest and most accessible sim racing tournaments. Open to  drivers of all skill levels, it gives participants from around the globe a chance to compete for real-world  prizes—including a trip to a Formula 1® Grand Prix and a visit to the legendary McLaren Technology  Centre. With over 200,000 unique competitors annually, the G Challenge proves that anyone with talent  and dedication can race with the best.

Kelly says: Drifting has been a passion of mine since I was young. The fast pace, the commitment it demands, and the challenge of making zero mistakes is what got me hooked, and that means constant practice, whether I’m on the track or off it. I’ve found a real love for sim racing because it blurs the lines between real-life and virtual driving, and lets me stay sharp even when I’m not physically in the car. Nothing quite compares to drifting on a real-life track, but my Logitech G sim racing setup gets me pretty close! I’ve got the full kit, from the Logitech G PRO Racing Wheel, RS Shifter & Handbrake, and PRO Racing Pedals, right through to the PRO headset, keyboard and mouse. It’s serious fun, but also seriously good for staying race-ready.

Drivers compete for more than $100,000 in prizes—including an all-expenses-paid trip to a Formula 1®  Grand Prix, exclusive meet-and-greets with McLaren drivers, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the McLaren  Technology Centre in the UK.

“Working closely with Logitech G, we’ve been able to blur the lines between virtual and real-world racing  throughout our partnership, turning our fans into true racers since 2017,” said Nick Martin, Co-Chief  Commercial Officer, McLaren Racing. “We’re excited to take this collaboration to the next level, and we  can’t wait to show you what new developments we have in store.”

As Logitech G and McLaren Racing look to the future, the partnership remains focused on expanding  opportunities for fans, drivers, and players around the world to connect through the power of play.

As McLaren Racing's Official Gaming Peripherals Partner, Logitech G will collaborate with McLaren to  create advanced sim racing accessories, which will be engineered to McLaren's rigorous standards,  fulfilling the requirements of professional drivers, racing enthusiasts, and McLaren fans. Designed to  enhance gameplay and deliver an authentic McLaren racing experience, these new products will bring  the excitement of the track to homes and training facilities globally.

With continuous innovations in G Challenge combined with next-generation products on the horizon,  Logitech G and McLaren Racing are poised to elevate sim racing to new heights, delivering on the shared  vision: push boundaries, deepen fan engagement, and shape the future of sim racing.

The Amateur: Disney+ Movie Review

Cast: Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan, Jon Bernthal, Caitriona Balfe
Director: James Hawes

A more muted revenge-driven thriller than perhaps its explosive trailer promised, The Amateur sees Mr Robot star Rami Malek showcasing his trademark nervous energy and outsider charm as Charles Heller, a CIA cryptographer whose wife is killed in a terrorist attack.

The Amateur: Movie Review

Despite his tracking down of those responsible, he is told by the powers that be within the CIA that it'll be dealt with. However, when he discovers that's anything but the case, and being wildly unqualified to do so, he sets out to exact vengeance on those who've wronged him.

It's an interesting premise for The Amateur - one that promises an avenging angel able to appear hidden in plain sight because of his own anonymity.

But director James Hawes' film is more concerned with offering middling thrills than full-on revenge edges that would have spiked moviegoers' interests in the 1980s. It's a shame because there are frustrating hints of what could have been in this film.

The Amateur: Movie Review

A scene where Heller uses a lockpick video on YouTube to crack open a door in an apartment is rich with humour, as he scrabbles to go unnoticed and the video tells viewers to like and subscribe.

The movie could have used a few more of these moments throughout, rather than a more workmanlike script that hits the right notes, but never seems to have the joy of having done so.

Malek is watchable though - his Heller has real potential for a franchise character, a kind of antithesis to the power dynamics of the likes of Jason Bourne, but unfortunately the script never quite cooks up enough of the ambiguity of the relationships between Heller, the trainer forced upon him (Laurence Fishburne) and the spy who Bro-loved him played by Jon Bernthal.

What transpires in The Amateur is a nice story of the unexpected underdog having their day, but without the frisson of tension and suspense, you're never anything less than 100% sure he'll make it through.

A bit more edge could have made this unmissable - as it is, well, it's just slightly Amateur-ish.

The Amateur is streaming now on Disney+.

The Life Of Chuck: Movie Review

The Life Of Chuck: Movie Review

Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Matthew Lillard, Jacob Tremblay, Carl Lumbly, Mia Sara, Cody Flanagan, Benjamin Pajak
Director: Mike Flanagan

Based on a Stephen King short story and an intriguing mix of the melancholy and the joyous, Mike Flanagan's The Life Of Chuck is a film that's in love with language - and is all the better for it.

From visual language to musical language via wordplay from the dryly laconic tones of Nick Offerman as the narrator, this non-linear film is a joy from beginning to somewhat abrupt end.

Divided into three parts and best served without any idea of what's ahead, the movie serves as a reminder to find joy in connection and take moments where they come.
The Life Of Chuck: Movie Review

It begins with the world facing a range of catastrophes of unknown origin. From the utterly disastrous events such as earthquakes taking out regions to the banal worldwide loss of the internet, the opening moments deliver a mix of atmospheric menace and mystery, all anchored by the gently warm performances of Ejiofor as a teacher and Gillan as a nurse.

How it all ties in to Tom Hiddleston's Chuck Krantz is best experienced cold, but suffice to say the story's deliberate pace and slow unpeeling serves it well.

Yet it's also the actors in this that elevate a very human story. From Hiddleston's energetic dance moves to Hamill's gruffly hunched performance as a near-broken man to a young Pajak and Flanagan's turn in a joy-filled dance medley, via Matthew Lillard's scene- stealing performance as a neighbour, every carefully crafted moment and actor more than delivers in surprisingly affecting ways.

Perhaps the only minor disappointment is the somewhat tritely conceived and brusque ending that stymied the emotional power with its central message, but overall, The Life Of Chuck is a cinematic joy to behold, a vibrant, breathing reminder of what going to the movies should be - and what elevated effective storytelling can deliver when it's at its very best.

Drop: Blu Ray Review

Drop: Blu Ray Review

Cast: Meghann Fahy, Brandon Sklenar, Reed Diamond, Violett Beane, Gabrielle Ryan
Director: Christopher Landon

The White Lotus' second season breakout star Meghann Fahy elevates an already tightly written story that lapses into an explosion of violence after simmering throughout in this latest from the director of Happy Death Day.

She plays widowed single mother of one Violet, who's heading out on her first date night with photographer Henry (It Ends With Us' Sklenar) but who's riddled with doubts over whether to go, what to wear and if she should leave her son.

Drop: Movie Review

However, when she gets to the restaurant, that's the least of her worries after a series of messages sent to her phone anonymously threaten to kill her son if she doesn't murder her date....

Landon stretches the premise as far as it'll go with this tale, but wisely, using a kind of roulette charm approach to who may be sending the messages works wonders for Drop's simple premise.

Deploying stage-style lighting to drop in and out to pinpoint possible perpetrators and giving the direction a kind of play feel helps sell a story that sees the old adage "everyone's a suspect" come into play. There's a desire here to stick solely to what's expected and Drop delivers it.

Yet it would be nothing without Fahy, whose penchant for subtlety and turning on the slightest moment gives Drop an edge that it needs. With steely determination one moment and extreme vulnerability the next, she's eminently watchable throughout, her spark with Sklenar working stronger on her side than his.

But it never wants to be more than a popcorn movie, where the audience is the detective (giving it a Hitchcockian edge) looking like Violet to find where the suspect could be - with blaring on screen graphics and an over-reliance on the 21st century obsession with technology, the film's contemporary enough to hook in the younger audience, while lightly mocking the older end's uselessness with tech and not alienating those in the middle.

Perhaps the one weak point in Drop's rollercoaster ride is its sudden rush denouement, complete with explanations, boogeymen and horror violence. It feels somewhat of an affront to what's already happened, but it's the payoff the audience seeks - though whether that's a good thing remains to be seen.

Drop is worth dropping everything for - but with its occasional logic holes and its clever teasing of the situation, it's a welcome one and done for a Blumhouse outing that does exactly what it sets out to.

Monster Train 2: PS5 Review

Monster Train 2: PS5 Review

Developed by Big Fan Games
Published by Big Fan Games
Platform: PS5

The deckbuilding world of games has taken off recently thanks to the success of Balatro, a game that really helped break through the mainstream.

And so it is with Monster Train 2, the latest from within the genre to head into the world of deckbuilding and to enliven fans who get their kicks from the ilk.

Monster Train 2: PS5 Review

Essentially putting you on board on a train and giving you the cards to build a group of heroes to battle those bad guys who want to stop you reaching your destination by attacking the power crystal on your train, Monster Train 2 goes for simplicity to ensure replayability.

However, unless you're familiar with these games, it's quite difficult to pick up and play, no matter how beautifully presented it is. Particularly given there's the roguelike elements of the game, it makes it hard to apply what you think you learned from a previous outing before taking it all on again.

Combat-based turns require patience and perhaps a degree of strategy, and while Monster Train 2 does its absolute best to get those who don't know on board, it does take a bit of time to finally fall into the game's MO and appreciate what's going on here.

Monster Train 2: PS5 Review

Across three floors, you have to fight and if you can't defeat the bad guys, they move up a level, heading to the train's Pyre Heart which is essentially your lifeblood. Building up a decent deck and unlocking new cards helps - but it's hard to fully recommend a game that takes too much time to really work out what's happening.

It looks great and plays well - but unless you're a fan of these types of games, it will largely leave you cold and wondering what exactly the point of it is. So, it's your decision if you want to climb on board this train - but while there's creativity and variety within, you may feel this is one ride you want to get off from.

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf (August 27)

What's on Prime Video in August

“The only way out is right through it.” Today, Prime Video released the official teaser trailer for the highly anticipated new action-drama series, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. Bringing global audiences back to the world of The Terminal List, the thrilling new teaser offers a look at “Ben Edwards’” (Taylor Kitsch) origin story before the events of the 2022 hit series. Dark Wolf will premiere the first three episodes on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. New episodes will follow weekly, leading up to the season finale on Wednesday, September 24.

Co-created by The New York Times bestselling author of The Terminal List, Jack Carr, and Season One creator-showrunner David DiGilio, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is a prequel series with an origin story that follows “Ben Edwards” throughout his journey from the Navy SEALs to the clandestine side of CIA Special Operations. The series is an espionage thriller that explores the darker side of warfare and the human cost that comes with it. It also features Chris Pratt reprising his role as “James Reece.”

“Digging into Ben’s origin with Dark Wolf was a blast. This season goes even deeper—there’s more grit, more heart, and a lot more on the line. It’s raw, it’s honest, and it really lets you see the heart of who he is. I have so much respect for the military and SEAL community and loved showing their brotherhood, the things you fight to hold onto, and just letting it all play out. I think fans are going to have a great time with it,” said Taylor Kitsch, Executive Producer and star of Dark Wolf.

As with Season One of the runaway hit The Terminal List, authenticity is a core pillar of The Terminal List: Dark Wolf – with military veterans contributing as writers, actors, on-set technical advisors, and executive producers, the series is committed to portraying the mindset, brotherhood, and moral complexity of Special Operations with respect and realism.

Additional cast for the series include Tom Hopper as “Raife Hastings,” Robert Wisdom as “Jed Haverford,” Luke Hemsworth as “Jules Landry,” Dar Salim as “Mohammed Farooq,” Rona-Lee Shimon as “Eliza Perash,” Shiraz Tzarfati as “Tal Varon,” Jared Shaw as “Ernest ‘Boozer’ Vickers,” and more.

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is executive produced by Taylor Kitsch alongside Chris Pratt through Indivisible Productions, writer and showrunner David DiGilio, author Jack Carr, Antoine Fuqua and Kat Samick through Hill District Media, former Army Ranger and writer Max Adams, and former Navy SEAL, writer, and technical advisor Jared Shaw, as well as Emmy-winning (Shōgun) pilot director Frederick E.O. Toye. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, MRC and Civic Center Media.

The Pick Up (August 6)

In the action-comedy The Pickup, a routine cash pickup takes a wild turn when two mismatched armored truck drivers, Russell (Eddie Murphy) and Travis (Pete Davidson), are ambushed by ruthless criminals led by a savvy mastermind, Zoe (Keke Palmer), with plans that go way beyond the cash cargo. As chaos unfolds around them, the unlikely duo must navigate high-risk danger, clashing personalities, and one very bad day that keeps getting worse.

The Pickup stars Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, Eva Longoria, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Jack Kesy, Andrew Dice Clay, Marshawn Lynch, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i and Keke Palmer.

Upload (August 25)

Upload is a sci-fi comedy series from Emmy-winning writer Greg Daniels (The Office, Parks and Recreation, King of the Hill), set in a technologically advanced future where holographic phones, self-driving vehicles, AI assistance, and 3D food printers are the norm. And, forget about dying – instead, you’ll be “uploaded” to a virtual reality afterlife, and enjoy all the comforts of a world-class resort. Provided you can afford it.

In the four-part series finale event, sentient AI rapidly turns evil, threatening to wipe out Lakeview (and the world!). On top of greedy executives, lingering mysteries, plus heartbreak in VR and IRL, our characters are tested like never before. The only way they can get through it all and save humanity from deletion is by teaming up one last time.

Upload stars Robbie Amell, Andy Allo, Kevin Bigley, Allegra Edwards, Zainab Johnson, and Owen Daniels.

Butterfly (August 13)

Butterfly is a character-driven spy thriller that explores complex family dynamics within the treacherous world of global espionage. It's centered on David Jung (Daniel Dae Kim), an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea, whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca (Reina Hardesty), a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him, and Caddis, the sinister spy organisation she works for.

Butterfly stars Daniel Dae Kim, Reina Hardesty, Piper Perabo, Louis Landau, Kim Jihun, Kim Tae Hee, Charles Parnell, Park Hae-soo.

The Map That Leads To You (August 20)

The Map That Leads To You follows Heather (Madelyn Cline), a young woman setting off on an adventure across Europe with her best friends before settling into her perfectly planned life. When she crosses paths with Jack (KJ Apa), a magnetic and mysterious stranger, their instant spark ignites an emotional journey neither of them expected. As their connection deepens, secrets, life choices, and hidden truths will test their bond—and change her life in ways she never imagined. From director Lasse Hallström (Dear John, Safe Haven) comes this adaptation of JP Monninger's novel about love, destiny, and the courage to choose your own path.

The Map That Leads To You stars Josh Lucas, KJ Apa, Madelyn Cline, Madison Thompson, Sofia Wylie, and Orlando Norman.

Built in Birmingham: Brady & The Blues (August 1)

The five-part docuseries tells the authentic tale of a club accustomed to sporting heartbreak, who are rebuilt to win, with American football legend Tom Brady laying out their new mission statement: “We’re trying to make this a world-class team.” Built in Birmingham: Brady & the Blues follows that journey, as a new ownership group suffer relegation and multiple managerial changes en route to a record-breaking season, which delivered automatic promotion to the EFL Sky Bet Championship.

Built in Birmingham: Brady & the Blues stars Tom Brady and Chris Davis.

Sausage Party: Foodtopia (August 13)

Based on the 2016 animated feature Sausage Party, the series Sausage Party: Foodtopia S2 follows Frank, Brenda, Barry, and Sammy as they try to build their own food society.

In Season Two, exiled from home, Frank, Barry, and Sammy soon find themselves in New Foodland, a shining utopia for food and humans alike. But beneath the city’s glossy fridges and cheery smiles lies a dark secret that threatens the entirety of sentient food society.
