There's an inherent danger in remastering and re-releasing a 20-year-old game.

Syberia Remastered: PS5 Review

For one thing, games have evolved since then and times change. But this revamped take on the unforgettable 2002 journey of Kate Walker, a New York lawyer searching for another person is something of an outlier in a gaming world that's soaked with quick cash-in titles.

Sent to oversee the takeover of an automaton factory, Kate finds her simple job turned into more of a mystery after an unexpected discovery.

With reimagined graphics, revamped animations and an updated way of controlling the game, Syberia Remastered has certainly had care and attention given to its 2025 re-release. Yet at no point has any of the game's original touches been ignored or lost as the classic puzzle adventure game gets a do-over.

Syberia Remastered: PS5 Review

With its steampunk edges and its automaton stylings, Syberia Remastered feels different enough from games that have gone before to ensure that any first-time players will get hooked on something a little different. There are moments that leave you frustrated with where to go next and what to do, but with a little patience, this is a game that offers gradual rewards, rather than quick-hits of joy.

Set within a world that's worth exploring but occasionally feels frustratingly cul-de-sac in its execution, the game's relatively short runtime means you can dive in and be reasonably immersed in a short period of time. With eccentric characters and nicely animated moments, there's certainly an argument to say the quirky world is worth adventuring into - just don't be surprised if Syberia Remastered leaves you somewhat caught up in the past - in more ways than one.
