Paul Rudd stars as Ned Rochlin, a guy who looks for the good in everything and who could be seen to be a little naive in places.

But when he's grabbed in an undercover sting for selling marijuana to a cop, he ends up in jail. When he gets out, he has nowhere to stay, and ends up rooming with his various sisters, mother of two Liz (Emily Mortimer), journalist Miranda (Elizabeth Banks) and younger sister Natalie (Zooey Deschanel).

However, his time with each sister exacerbates the stresses in their relationships - and that's despite all of his good intentions.

Gradually though, they come to realise that Ned may have some inner depths and the trio of his sisters start to benefit from his intervention in their lives.

Our Idiot Brother is a gentle comedy/ dramedy which has a charm and goofiness which is unnervingly well executed.

It's Paul Rudd's film to carry and he does so brilliantly with charisma and dry deadpan delivery behind a truly hideous hippy wig and beard. The trio of supporting sisters are also good and Steve Coogan continues to refine his schtick as a nasty guy as a cheating husband.

Overall, Our Idiot Brother is a surprisingly funny and well acted revelation - a nugget of a film which catches you off guard and amuses and surprises you in moments when you least expect it.
