Assassin's Creed: Rogue Remastered: PS4 Review
Platform: PS4
Released by Ubisoft
Back in 2014, Assassin's Creed: Rogue became one of the last of the franchise to be launched on the last gen consoles.
Although it was the seventh installment in the franchise, it lacked the edge to be the breakthrough of the series and appeared at the time Assassin's Creed: Unity was powering up the next gen consoles and inspiring what was next for the Templars and the fight.
Centring around follows Shay Patrick Cormac, an Assassin-turned-Templar who hunts down former members of his Brotherhood after being betrayed by them. Using the usual stealth methods, Assassin's Creed: Rogue sets you on the quest during the Seven Years War to achieve Shay's aims.
While the original game paled a little next to what had been achieved with Assassin's Creed: Black Flag and hinted a lot at repetition of what had already been done, the remaster does little except upgrade the graphics and tinkers not a jot with the actual gameplay.
Thankfully, the locations look stunning and the game's done much to improve the vistas of what's around - but it's a fairly basic remaster in that little to nothing is done to build on what made the game good and also, what made the game weak.
It may feel like it added new elements in to what went before, but given Assassin's Creed: Origins added much to the franchise in terms of story, mechanics and ideas, the remaster of Rogue seems a little unnecessary and a reminder of where the Assassin's Creed franchise sort of flounders from time to time.
