Circuit Superstars: PS5 Review

Circuit Superstars: PS5 Review

Developed by Original Fire Games
Released by Square Enix
Platform: PS5

A top-down racing game where 1 to 12 players compete for supremacy, Circuit Superstars is the kind of game that's good for a group of mates out for a bit of disposable entertainment.
Circuit Superstars: PS5 Review

Blending arcade racing with proper driving physics, Circuit Superstars isn't just about racing - it's about drivers paying attention to wear and tear on tyres, vehicle damage, and also looking out for fuel so they don't embarrassingly run out on the track.

It resembles a Micro Machines style racer in many facets, but Circuit Superstars, with its gaudy colourings, and OTT graphics is eminently playable. Thanks to a simplicity of execution, a high camera angle that takes in all the track and a commitment to just keeping it simple on the track, Circuit Superstars will keep basic racers entertained and committed to beating each other when it fires up.

It's stylishly executed, and deceptive in its need to concentrate on the driving - from the details of the track itself to the fact one small simple error will send you smashing out, Circuit Superstars requires a level of concentration that's deceptive from its presentation.

It may be retro in outlook, but if you look under the hood of the presentation and focus on what this sim delivers, you'll be able to appreciate what an original game this is for a genre that's already overcrowded.
