Comedy Fest Q&A - Alan McElroy

Comedy Fest Q&A - Alan McElroy

1) Tell us the name of your show
Craic Up!

2) Which came first – the show name or the show content?
The chicken

3) C’mon, be honest….
Ok, the rooster

4) Any other working titles for the show?
Never, obviously being from Ireland, we’ve always used the word, ‘craic’ and the term ‘crack up’ is used a lot here so bing bang bosh…Craic Up!

5) How long – honestly- have you been working on this?
It’s our life’s work or maybe a couple of months

6)What’s been the biggest challenge of pulling this show together?
Developing the upper arm strength to pull such a show

7)Who’s your biggest comedy rival – and why?
Billy Connolly, he seems to get all jobs that I go for

8)Who’s your biggest comedy friend – and why?
I’ve a few good ones but with the mental instability of a lot of comedians, picking one over another would bring them back to their childhood, playing second fiddle to a sibling and Inception would happen, maybe.

9)Which show is your must see? Why?
There is a show called ‘Craic Up!  I think I already mentioned it.  It’s going to be great craic and an absolute crack up

10)Give us your definition of a great night out during the festival
Buffalo wings and cider at Doolans, then catch at least two shows including the Late show at the Classic (anything can happen!) then finish the night at Munster Inn for more cider!!

11)What goes through your mind, the minute before curtain goes up?
Probably, ‘wow, a curtain, that’s new’

12)What about when you’re on stage?
‘They are really fancy curtains, it’s nice that they make an effort for the festival’

13)How easily distracted are you?
I wonder if they are black out curtains also because the elastic on my eye mask broke

14)Give us your dream comedy line up
You’ll see it on stage at Cavern Club, Wellington, 30th April – 3rd May at 10pm and Vault @ Q, Auckland, 7th – 10th May at 10pm, it’s called Craic Up!  Do it

15)Just finally, where will you be in 5 years’ time
Telling my grandkids about those curtains

Alan Mc Elroy performs alongside Darren Jardine in CRAIC UP! (WG 30 April – 3 MAY & AKL 7 – 10 May) as part of the 2014 NZ International Comedy Festival in cahoots with Old Mout Cider 24 April – 18 May. For more info visit www.comedyfestival.co.nz
